Frequently Asked Questions

How do I restore my subscription or purchases?

You can restore your subscription in two places: tap "Restore" on the paywall, or go to Settings → Account and tap "Restore Purchases." Both will verify your subscription with Apple and restore access to all features on this device. If you switched devices, you can sign in with your account to access your subscription on your new phone.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through Apple, not within the app. To cancel, go to your iPhone Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions, find Gold Prospector, and tap "Cancel Subscription." You'll retain Pro features through the end of your current billing period.

Is there a free tier?

Partly. Every map layer, offline maps, AI analysis, GoldBot and Ghost Towns research are Pro. Without a subscription you keep My Pins and Find Log Pins on the map, finds and tracks, the Community and Tips & News. You get a 7-day free trial of everything first. After that, Pro is $8.99/month or $89.99/year.

Does Gold Prospector send notifications?

Push notifications cover likes, comments and replies, follow requests, accepted follows and direct messages. Tapping one opens the exact post, comment or message. Turn them off any time in Settings.

Can I share a spot without giving away its location?

Send a pin, a find or a track as a link that anyone can open in a browser or in the app. A shared find never includes its coordinates.

Do offline maps work without signal?

Yes. Download your area within the app before you head to the field, then open Offline Maps and tap the saved map to activate it. A banner at the top shows which area is active, and while it is up the map draws only from what you downloaded. Almost every layer comes down with it, including satellite, Ultra 1m LiDAR and historic topo. See the offline maps guide for step by step instructions.

I'm not receiving my verification email — what do I do?

Check your spam or junk folder first. If it's not there, wait a minute and try requesting another email from the login screen. If you're still not receiving it, reach out to support and I'll help sort it out.

How accurate is the GPS / location data?

GPS accuracy depends on your device and signal. In open sky with a clear view, expect accuracy within 5–15 meters. In canyons or dense vegetation, accuracy may be 20–50 meters or more. For critical prospecting decisions, always cross-check with other methods and on-the-ground observation.

Can you keep gold you find on public land?

On most BLM and Forest Service ground that is open to mineral entry, yes: gold you recover by panning, sluicing or detecting is yours to keep, with no permit and no fee. The exceptions are the ones that bite, namely active mining claims, national parks and any ground that has been closed or withdrawn. There is a full breakdown, agency by agency, in the public lands guide.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

Email support@goldprospector.app with details about what you found or what you'd like to see. Include steps to reproduce bugs and context for feature ideas. I read and prioritize every suggestion.
